When did you did join the cabaret community? What inspired you to become involved?
One of the great gifts of my life is having a mom who taught me dance, so I’ve had a love of performing since a very young age. When I first moved to NYC in 2010, I signed up for Jo Weldon’s “Flirting with Burlesque” class at the New York School of Burlesque – that flirtation became my gateway into the wild & wonderful world of burlesque. As someone who had been searching for my art form, that’s when everything clicked… I was enraptured by the blending of high glamour with the performance art edginess that characterized NYC burlesque at the time. I fell in love with the sparkle, of course, but also the subversive potential of glamour and the DIY ethos that fueled the neo-burlesque revival. Burlesque is both high-brow and low-brow, and that interplay is what keeps it exciting for me. 15 years in, I still love this art form so much for the autonomy that we have as artists over all aspects of our craft and in presenting our truest selves on stage.

What is your favourite act to perform?
There are two major productions in my career that stand out as being particularly near & dear to my heart. The first is The Pink Room: David Lynch Burlesque, founded by Francine the Lucid Dream, which had the highest honor of getting a thumbs up from the late David Lynch himself. From the start, Lynch’s dark & dreamy cinematic universe has been one of the biggest influences in my own creative expression and it has been nothing short of magic to collaborate with kindred spirits to create a parallel Lynchian burlesque universe of our own. Our shows have been attended by stars of Twin Peaks, and we had the immense thrill of taking part in the launch of Twin Peaks: The Return! The NYC Asian Burlesque Festival, started in 2013 by Calamity Chang and Thirsty Girl Productions, is also deeply meaningful to me. This annual event has grown so much over the years, and I have had the great fortune to be part of it several times. In 2022, amidst a climate of amplified hatred towards Asian people

Do you have a mantra or philosophy that defines this moment of your performance career? Has this changed over time?
Tigger!’s “Fuck ’em in the Heart” will forever be my performance mantra of choice. It reminds us that as artists, we have the unique ability to make our audiences FEEL something – not just about us, but also about themselves. And most importantly, to have fun with that precious time on stage!
