How did you find yourself on this career path?
Music runs deep in my family. My grandfather was a big band jazz drummer and our lives only overlapped by four months, but we were together almost every day, and I have always felt like he passed his music onto me before he left. I have diary entries from 8/9 yrs old where I talk about wanting to be a singer, but I was SO shy back then. I started singing around 11 yrs old, in church, then at school, and soon performing was the only thing I could see myself doing. Music, acting, comedy…I love it all. From your view, what three words best describe you or your work?
tender, spicy, soulfulWhat fills your cup?
Collaboration. Every time. There’s nothing like sharing space and art with other creators and letting their process and vibe affect yours and vice versa. What is alternate universe YOU doing right now?
an Italian man in a clawfoot tub by candle light.Could you share a mortifying moment you experienced in this industry? How did you survive it?
I forgot the lyrics to the American national anthem, in the middle of the ice on the red carpet, at a university hockey game when I was 17. Honestly, I think it was pivotal moment in my career. After I finished it, then sang the Canadian one, I ran out of that arena sobbing, with my dad chasing me yelling “It’s okay! It wasn’t that bad!” And I thought I as finished. Thankfully I had the wherewithal to know that if I didn’t get right back on that horse, it would mess with me for a long time. So the next week I went back, it went fine, and I was saved. I think that “face your demons” mentality is what had led me to where I am now. What is one of your goals for the year?
To get on a Canadian tour with a bigger artist as support.
