Melody Rysing she/her
How did you find yourself on this career path?
I was rising from the ashes of my life and realized I had never done anything truly for myself. It made me think of what makes me happy, singing, and how I could use that to fall in love with myself. Burlesque has always appealed to me, but it finally clicked after seeing a video of KiKi La Chanteuse and I had found my callingFrom your view, what three words best describe you or your work?
Sensual, Alluring and SoulCould you tell us a rose (good) and a thorn (bad) of your area of the industry?
Mine is both a rose and a thorn. As a Black Woman, there are fewer performers in the community, but I am always learning about new ones as well as how many shaped the history of burlesque. We making a bigger impact and Im so blessed to have met so many others magical individualsWhat fills your cup?
Being in the audience, screaming for my peers. I am so lucky to be in such a thriving community, with so many shows to be in awe of the talent. But then intermission comes and I get to celebrate my friends and gush about how amazing they are. Like, these spectacular beings are my friends. I also love spending time with my family and finding new adventures to tackle. What is one of your goals for the year?
To learn more about this amazing artform and bridging it more with other parts of my life. Melody is a significant part of me, and so is Rudy, my drag character. Letting them develop allows me to heal so many parts of myself that I am excited to see who we are at the end of this, my third year in burlesque.
