Welcome to the Cabaret Laboratory, where we explore and expand our understanding and presentation of performance through a cabaret lens.
Our Spring sessions include:
A four-week Props Series March 6th to March 27th from 5:00 to 7:00PM at Evergreen Spaces
$130 for all 4 classes
$40 drop in if there is room
This series is directed towards performers looking to incorporate props into their acts. Having an understanding of performance and movement as an art form is beneficial but not required. We will be covering the use of boas, chairs, tassel twirling (pasties), silk fans, and feather fans. You will be required to source your own props to use unless otherwise directed.
Four-week BIPOC Studio Drop-In March 6th to March 27th from 7:00 to 8:00PM at Evergreen Spaces

This drop-in series is a space for racialized folx to explore the art of burlesque in whatever way they desire to. Be that a rehearsal space, a community, instruction or guidance by Bea Lissima, these sessions are designed to offer a supportive environment in developing your relationship with burlesque
Four-week The Flirt - Dance Series March 7th to March 28th from 6:00 to 8:00PM at Evergreen Spaces
$120 for this series
This movement-focused series is an opportunity to learn to move like a burlesque artist! The power, the sensuality, the grace, cheek, and play. We will focus on empowerment, precision, improvisation, confidence, and a combined physical-emotional build and release. This choreography is not intended for performance, but as a vessel to explore or try out burlesque, to challenge and celebrate your beautiful self!
A four-week Costuming Series March 9th to March 30th from 6:00 to 7:00PM at Dickens Pub
$100 for this series
This series is directed towards anyone looking to learn how to work on costumes, and upgrade their skillset. Each one hour class will be followed with self-directed time to work on costume projects, open to everyone. During class time we will cover sewing basics, up-cycling, fabrics, closures, and bringing your costumes to life, all through the lens of performance. Students may be asked to bring sewing supplies, fabrics, costumes, a portable sewing machine if possible, etc
A four-week Stitch Space March 9th to March 30th from 7:00 to 9:30PM at Dickens Pub

Please bring the projects you are working on, share space with the community, enjoy the atmosphere in this crafting and costuming focused gathering.
A two hour Event Hosting Intensive March 21st from 7:00 to 9:00PM at Dickens Pub
$40 to participate
This two hour session will focus on how to be a great MC, with instruction by Karla Marx! She will cover land acknowledgements, performer intros, the do's and don'ts of professional event hosting, while finding your unique voice.
Anyone attending is required to have a minimum two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, plus 14 days since the 2nd dose.
If at anytime a student feels unwell, we require them to not attend class and to get a COVID-19 test. A student may return to class once a negative result has been confirmed, masks must be worn. This is to protect the other attendees and the instructor from falling ill themselves.
