Cabaret Laboratory- Fall Session

Welcome to the Cabaret Laboratory, where we explore and expand our understanding and presentation of performance through a cabaret lens.

This fall we have two 6-week series available, a 4-week bootcamp, and a few specialty classes! All classes are held at Evergreen Spaces in the MAPLE Studio.

Burlesque Foundations Sundays from 7:00 to 8:00PM October 15 to November 19, 2023

This intensive is directed towards brand new performers, performers new to the burlesque art form, and burlesque performers with some experience looking to strengthen their foundational understanding and process. This series will focus on basic burlesque movements, local and international history, and how to build a routine. This class will be led by Bea Lissima with other guest instructors.

Flirt Choreography Series with Bitch Sassidy Sundays from 8:00 to 9:00PM October 15 to November 19, 2023

Led by Bitch Sassidy, this movement-focused series is an opportunity to learn to move like a burlesque artist! The power, the sensuality, the grace, cheek, and play. We will focus on empowerment, precision, improvisation, confidence, and a combined physical-emotional build and release. This choreography is not intended for performance, but as a vessel to explore or try out burlesque, to challenge and celebrate your beautiful self!

Pin-Up Bootcamp with Karla Marx Sunday October 15, 22, 29, Nov 15 5:00pm-7:00pm

Join Karla Marx for Pin-Up Bootcamp! This four-session series focuses on everything one would need to become a pin-up. Classes will move through hair, make-up, posing, social media basics, and an optional photoshoot with a professional photographer on the fourth day (additional cost).

Musicality and Burlesque with Ivy La Fleur Sunday November 12, 2023 5:00 to 7:00pm

Performing to a live band can be intimidating. Ivy La Fleur is both a musician and burlesque dancer who will lead this workshop on how to pair movement (both improv and choreographed) to music. Focusing on musicality and maintaining stage presence, this two-hour workshop will include choreography and improvisation.

Floor Work Fundamentals with Bea Lissima Sunday November 19, 2023 5:00 to 6:00pm

Learn basics of floor work with Bea, focusing on transitions, building strength, and putting moves together. This class has a choreography component. Mobility aids are welcomed in this class, and needs will be tailored to each participant.

Intro to Vogue Femme with Shandie (Vogue YYC) Sunday November 19, 2023 6:00 to 7:00pm

In this class we will learn about the 5 elements of Vogue as the dance of Ballroom, as well as talk about Ballroom culture and history. We will explore our own way of expression within the 5 elements, posing, and then putting it all together to get your 10s. It is recommended to bring knee pads and comfortable shoes. Heels are not necessary. @vogueyyc --- If at anytime a student feels unwell, we require them to not attend class. A student may return to class once they feel well. This is to protect the other attendees and the instructor from falling ill themselves.
